This March will mark a year since Birmingham and the Black Country were awarded Nature Improvement Area status.
To celebrate this milestone, the Birmingham & Black Country Nature Improvement Area partnership will be hosting an event to celebrate the completion of projects which have made significant environmental improvements for the people and wildlife of the region.
The event will also celebrate the first ‘Flora of Birmingham and the Black Country’ – a book recording all the different kinds of the plants and vegetation found across the region during 1995-2012. Professor Ian Trueman, Christopher Cadbury Medal winner and Vice President of The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country will give a talk on the book and then lead a walk looking at the flora around the canals of Digbeth.
Sir John Lawton, who was the Chair of the Nature Improvement Area panel, will give a key note speech at the event and there will be a Q&A session with him about Nature Improvement Areas as well as other activities and stalls and workshops taking place.
‘Improving Nature in Birmingham and the Black Country’, will be held at the Bond in Digbeth, Birmingham on 6th March with an audience of Nature Improvement Area partners and supporters from across the region. The event will be an opportunity not only to celebrate the Birmingham & Black Country Nature Improvement Area’s achievements so far, but also to learn more about what can be done to improve nature conservation in the region in the future.
