Public announce 2013 comedy programme

A star studded new comedy programme packed full of some of the finest established and upcoming comics on the circuit is coming to The Public in the New Year.

Having firmly established themselves as one of the leading comedy venues in the Black Country, over the next few months the West Bromwich arts centre will be treating the audience to a laugh a minute.

Highlights include a rip roaring brand new show from award winning comedian and Guardian columnist, Shazia Mirza on 15 February and hilarious stand up and witty observations from Lucy Porter with her new feel-good show, People Person, on 17 April.  Robin Ince takes a comic look at some his favourite scientists on 18 May, and Clare Summerskill brings her show, Well That Explains It, to the venue on 8 March as part of SHOUT Festival.

In March TV regular and co-host of Frank Skinner’s Absolute Radio Show, Alun Cochrane will headline new comedy night, ‘Sit Down, Stand Up’.  The Black Country venue have teamed up with leading comedy promoters, Avalon Promotions, to host the regular evening of entertainment, packed full of some of the hottest names on the circuit and stars of tomorrow.

On 1 February The Public will also see some of Midland’s finest comics battle it out for a £100 cash prize and stepping stone to stardom with #HashTagFunny.  After a recent call for comedians, ten up and coming stars will take to the stage, as members of the audience get to join in with the banter using the show’s twitter tag.

Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public said: “We’re delighted to bringing some of the finest upcoming and established names on the comedy circuit to West Bromwich.  Comedy has always proved popular at The Public, so we’re eagerly anticipating a number of excellent evenings of entertainment.”
