Birmingham gears up for MIPIM 2013

Leading businesses across Birmingham are joining forces once again to attend the world’s leading real estate show next year.

Delegates including Peter Crowther, Bruntwood, James Payne and Nick Payne, Nikal, listen as Gary Taylor, Altitude, briefs them on plans for Paradise Circus

So far, 11 partners including Nikal, GVA and DLA Piper are representing the city at MIPIM 2013, which will be held on 12-15 March in Cannes.

Led by inward investment programme Business Birmingham, the delegation will be promoting development opportunities in the city to nearly 20,000 international attendees from 83 countries. This audience includes thousands of investors, CEOs, property experts and architects.

Business Birmingham’s Investment Director Wouter Schuitemaker said: “MIPIM provides us with an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with the people who influence where global organisations should be locating and investing. It is part of a wider campaign to showcase Birmingham to locations experts, following a successful visit to the city by ten site selectors last month.

“Both MIPIM and our site selectors tour highlight how organisations across Birmingham are working closely together to retain the city’s status as the UK’s most popular inward investment destination outside London. Our aim now is to increase those levels of investment even further.”

Other partners involved in Birmingham’s presence at MIPIM are Argent, Birmingham City Council, Brindleyplace, Bruntwood, Jaguar Land Rover, Miller Developments, Rider Levett Bucknall and Willmott Dixon.

James Payne, Development Director at Nikal, added: “Taking part in Birmingham’s presence at MIPIM once more demonstrates our confidence in the city’s ability to sell its development and investment opportunities to a global audience effectively and professionally. We look forward to working with Business Birmingham to make the most of this event.”

Birmingham is hosting a number of high-profile events with its partners throughout the event – with topics including its progressive transport infrastructure and the investment opportunities in key sectors such as life sciences. The delegation will also present the latest research comparing Birmingham’s new economic zones with other international locations. The six zones are expected to attract £1.5 billion investment and 50,000 jobs into Birmingham.

Sir Albert Bore, Leader of Birmingham City Council, commented: “MIPIM is a highly successful example of how Birmingham’s civic and business leaders can work together to raise the city’s profile as a leading destination for enterprise. Its new economic zones, and infrastructure schemes such as the £65 million runway extension at Birmingham Airport, all demonstrate that Birmingham has a wealth of exciting schemes that ambitious companies and investors can take advantage of.”
