Fit for the Future

Queen Alexandra College’s ‘Fit for the Future’ appeal was launched this month – aided by a celebrity former student.

Over the last year Queen Alexandra College (QAC) – a specialist residential college for people with disabilities located in Harborne, Birmingham –  have developed their sports provision; working to encourage more students to get involved and participate in sports and physical activity.

Plans to develop this provision further received a huge boost recently when planning permission to build an on-site sports hall was approved and granted. To make this dream a reality, the college fundraising team officially launched its ‘Fit for the Future’ appeal with a drinks and nibbles evening held at QAC.

Guests from across the region came to find out more about the appeal and enjoyed the hospitality provided by staff and students. Blind Dave Heeley, college governor and former student, spoke passionately about what the college and sport have done for him.

Current students from the college BTEC Sport & Recreation programme delivered presentations highlighting how a sports hall would benefit them and future students. Guests also enjoyed an interactive demonstration of Boccia, led by BTEC Sport & Recreation students.

There will be similar events held in the future to help generate support and awareness for the appeal. To find out more about these events, the appeal and how you can help lay the foundations and ‘Buy a Brick’, contact the fundraising team on 0121 428 5064 or fundraising@qac.ac.uk
