Blackpool Tangoed by Captain Fantastic

Blackpool in November. Andy Munro’s watching the Blues.

If we hadn’t lost two games on the trot, conceding six goals in the process, then this would have been a more than decent result. In fairness to Clarke he suffered yet another selection headache when Robert Hall apparently threw up during his teamtalk….I don’t think any further comment is needed on that statement. As Redmond hadn’t travelled that left us somewhat devoid of pace so the obvious solution was to play Lovenkrands ahead of Burke (NOT!!).

Inevitably, playing just one up front we came under the cosh and predictably fell a goal behind.(Incidentally the recipe for being ‘under the cosh’ is take one small forward and play him up front on his own with nobody behind him with any pace to properly support).

Luckily Blues’ team was a vast defensive improvement on the last couple of games and this in no small measure was due to the welcome return of Caddis. Let’s just hope Adam Rooney is doing a ‘Wayne’ down at Swindon so a swap can be made permanent. The return of Ibanez in place of the badly out of form Caldwell also helped shore things up. Curtis Davies was given the captain’s armband, an armband previously worn by a captain who bizarrely complained about the need for a leader!

Anyway we kept it down to one in the first half, then almost immediately after the restart scored an equaliser with Curtis showing some real determination in the opposing box. Soon afterwards Lovenkrands hit the bar although that unlucky moment shouldn’t be allowed to gloss over a fairly forgettable performance from him. In my view we have to be starting Burke regularly again and perhaps Redmond on the bench as an impact player just behind the centre forward.

Papa Diop came on for a cameo performance which included getting booked and getting stuck in. At that rate, he will soon become a real favourite. Next up is Middlesbrough and that ain’t going to be easy but I just hope we field an attacking side and go for the jugular from the off.
