Birmingham Bach Choir is on the lookout for new talent from across Birmingham

One of the country’s foremost large chamber choirs, the group are on the hunt for local tenors to swell their ranks.

Choir Chairman Jonathan Spencer said: “We’re looking for good voices within the tenor range. Maybe they haven’t sung in a choir for some time, are new to the area, or would like a new challenge? Perhaps they’ve sung with a big choral societies and would like to try out the more intimate chamber choir experience? We’d love to hear from anyone who is interested.”

Would-be tenors are invited to attend an open rehearsal of JS Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on Wednesday 7 November 2012, from 7.15pm, in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Music will be provided. For more information and to book a place, please call Hilary on 01562 884821.

Founded in 1919, Birmingham Bach Choir specialise in the music of JS Bach and the Baroque period, though also perform music from other eras, including the 20th century. Forthcoming performances include Bach Christmas Oratorio at Lichfield Cathedral (Saturday 24 November 2012), and The Glory of Easter at St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham (Saturday 23 March 2013). A choir tour to Dresden is planned for spring 2013.

A friendly group of about 80 adults, current members include GPs and surgeons, a landscape gardener, a potter, teachers, computer technicians, accountants, a High Court Judge, a vicar, students and professors, who live not just in the city and immediate surrounds, but also Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The choir practices are Wednesday evenings in Edgbaston.
