What’s On at the Robin

Tonight at The Robin  there’s the first heat of this month’s round in the Robin/M2 Studios band of the year competition. Contestants include rockers Venom & Apathy from Darlaston, indie band Jump the Shark from Wolverhampton and their fellow Wulfrunians, blues outfit Greenwood Park. Tickets £3.

Wednesday sees Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn at the Robin. His songs have been covered by such diverse artistes as Third World, Jerry Garcia and k.d. lang, his guitar playing has been likened to Segovia and Django Reinhardt while he has also been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, received several honorary doctorates and won over 20 gold and platinum discs in his native land. This is obviously a rare and special talent. Tickets £15

Paul McCartney tribute act the Macca Band are on stage on Thursday. Tickets £10

On Friday AC/DC tribute Dirty DC perform. Tickets £10

Saturday sees Paul Weller tribute the Modfathers appearing. Tickets £10

There’s a return on Sunday for Robin regulars Magenta. Featuring award-winning vocalist Christina Booth, the band returned from a lay-off last year with their fifth album, Chameleon, and once more took their place as one of Britain’s brightest and most genuinely progressive prog bands. Tickets £13
