£10 million adult apprenticeship boost for the Black Country

A £10 million boost to fund adult apprenticeships in the Black Country has been secured by training company BCTG.

The money will help fund more than 5,000 apprenticeships for people aged 19 plus over the next 12 months.

In addition the Oldbury-based company has won a further £1 million contract from the Skills Funding Agency to provide apprenticeships for 16-18-year olds.

The money will support apprenticeships in a whole range of sectors, from engineering and IT to social care and hairdressing.

Chris Luty, BCTG director, said the funding would be a welcome boost to employers, who could now sign up staff to gain qualifications and enhance their skills.

“Time and time again we say it, but it is a fact that apprenticeships are a major benefit to the local economy. They encourage employers to take on young people and adults in a very cost effective way and provide invaluable training, which can bolster their business.

“Through this funding BCTG is now able to help more SMEs to invest in their business through funded apprenticeship training,” he said.

BCTG is managing the £10 million contract through a consortium of more than 40 training providers who will provide placements and qualifications in employment ranging from engineering and health to beauty and business administration.
