The Birmingham Press

This week at the Robin

Old, new, borrowed and blues.

Tonight there’s a true cult hero at the Robin.

Martin Stephenson

For many years Martin Stephenson has been one of the country’s brightest songwriters, but his commercial success either solo or with his band the Daintees has failed to live up to their critical acclaim. The band’s California Star album released earlier this year reaffirmed his talent and this is a chance to see him live. Tickets £10

There’s a triple bill of upcoming bands on Tuesday. Walsall-based indie headliners the Formula won last year’s Robin Band of the Year competition, and support is from local bands 6ix foot fall and This Elegant Chaos. Tickets £5

On Thursday there’s a return for one of the Robin’s old favourites. Steve Gibbons is a genuine local hero, with more than forty years in the music business and a CV that includes top ten hits, world tours and playing with the Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ELo amongst others. Tickets £10

Who tribute Who’s Who are performing on Friday. Tickets £10

On Saturday there’s Thin Lizzy tribute Limehouse Lizzy. Tickets £11

Sunday sees another old Robin favourite, prog rockers Solstice. Thirty-odd years after first forming, the band have been playing in their present incarnation since 2007 and have a new live album, Kindred Spirits, released this year. Tickets £10
