The Wolverhampton born table tennis ace, who represented Team GB at the Special Olympics in Slovenia in April, winning two silver medals, was joined by Stephen Ward from Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury, specialists in table tennis development.

During the launch, the table tennis aficionados treated visitors to The Public to an action packed live demonstration of Noisy Table, one of the gallery’s many new interactive exhibitions.  Noisy Table, by Will Nash, is a music playing table tennis table.  As the ball strikes the table during play, vibrations trigger sounds and noise sequences, broadcasting them live, directly back into the game.

The Art of Motion, which launched on 30 May, places visitors at the heart of the art using some of the latest digital technology to the shape artwork that evolves around them.  As well as Noisy Table, visitors to the innovative Black Country arts centre have been able to experience, Traces, by James Alliban, a newly commissioned artwork that reflects participants movements, Cyclomation 2, a pedal powered animation based on work by Steve Chamberlain, and see a collection of motion based films curated by Birmingham based, KINO 10.

Since launching the exhibition has been a success amongst visitors hailed, ‘first class’, ‘great interactive fun’, and ‘an asset for West Bromwich’.

Jessica Bromley said: “I had a fantastic day launching the exhibition and showing my table tennis skills on the Noisy Table.  It’s also great to see The Public supporting people with learning disabilities and providing them with the opportunity to engage with the exhibitions.”

Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public said: “The Art of Motion is very much about putting the visitor at the forefront of the exhibition, providing them with a unique opportunity to become part of the artwork.  By adopting a hands-on approach, visitors are able to experience the exhibition in a playful and engaging manner, creatively being able to influence their surroundings.”

The Art of Motion will be displayed at The Public until 9 September 2012, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and Sunday, 11am – 3pm, and is free to visit.  Throughout the school holidays the gallery will be open daily.
