Storytelling Cafe  – With Dave Tongue

Treat yourself to a good night out at The Kitchen Garden and immerse yourself in comfort as Dave Tonge’s new show, “Dame Fortune’s Wheel and the Three Estates”brings the Middle Ages to life before your very eyes. Listen to the intriguing and sometimes interwoven tales of the three mediaeval classes, those who worked those who fought and those who prayed as they revolve around the wheel of fortune. Discover how the number three has mystical connotations; laugh at the crafty riddles. Red Shoes

Championed by Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention, songwriters Carolyn & Mark Evans draw on English folk roots and Americana to create their unique sound. They have now embraced the talents of Tony Kelsey (The Move) on guitar & mandolin, plus percussionist Bert Priest. Red Shoes critically acclaimed album Ring Around The Land features Celtic Moon, recently recorded by Fairport Convention on their album Festival Bell. “ Red Shoes definitely have the WOW factor!” (Banbury Folk) “Sandy Denny-era Fairports and the contemporary American country-folk of Lucinda Williams sewn together neatly in these well crafted songs” (SHINDIG) “The Angels want to hear these Red Shoes” (Maverick). Clive Gregson

Born and raised in Manchester and now based in the USA, Clive Gregson is an accomplished singer, musician and record producer of world-renown. Mary Chapin Carpenter named him as one of her favourite songwriters. Melody Maker described his band Any Trouble as the most exciting new rock ‘n’ roll group since The Pretenders and he appears in Guitar Player’s 1000 great guitarists. He’s one of the most respected songwriters of his time with a steady stream of stunning albums throughout his career and his songs recorded by a host of contemporaries. In 1985, he formed the groundbreaking partnership with Christine Collister and has toured with Richard Thompson, Eddi Reader, Boo Hewerdine, Nanci Griffith and Dennis Locorriere. “Gregson is a powerful and vital force in contemporary music.”(Folk Roots). “the state of the art in British folk-rock“(Rolling Stone).

Attila The Stockbroker

Attila the Stockbroker is a performance poet, and folk punk musician/songwriter. Inspired by punk, and especially The Clash, he’s loud, radical, lyrical, reflective, and will make you roar with laughter as well as seethe with anger. A regular at Glastonbury, Attila’s melodically political musings are both thoughtful and entertaining.  ‘Whether he’s ranting a poem or bashing out a song, there is something  magnificent about Attila in full flight’ (Ian McMillan, BBC Radio 4). Support is provided by Australian Alt Country/Blues singer/songwriter Rory Ellis.

Tir na nOg

Leo O’Kelly and Sonny Condell are coming back for more! Audiences have acclaimed their return and have revelled in the musicianship and pedigree of this Irish duo. Their array of beautifully original songs, together with the playful banter emanating from these two troubadours, guarantees that an evening with Tir na nOg is one to savour. The history of Tir na nOg is impressive and intriguing. Sally Spring

From North Carolina, USA, Sally Spring and her Folk-Country Blue Boys (Trio) perform a rare concert in England.  Sally’s “soulful and gritty style” (Uncut, UK), “transfixing, gorgeous alto” (Sing Out!), along with husband, Ted Lyons (who’s performed with Alex Chilton, Sun Ra, Percy Sledge, John Lee Hooker) with his eclectic, edgy, rhythmic style on resonator guitar (his playing sounds like a mix of Ry Cooder & James Blood Ulmer) and bass player Harvey Gold, perform roots music that combines pop, folk, Memphis and southern Appalachia styles that will stir your soul.
