This week at the Assembly

There’s a definite eighties feel in Leamington.

Bow wow wow

Tonight sees a strange gig at the Assembly in the shape of Bow Wow Wow, who were briefly (in)famous in the early eighties thanks to their manager Malcolm McLaren’s manipulation of schoolgirl singer Anabelle Lewin. They’ve no new material planned for release and there’s no sign of a piratical revival, so what the gig will be like is anyone’s guess.  Tickets £18

In contrast, singer-songwriter Paul Brady returns on Wednesday. The Irish folk star has a double anthology Dancer in the Fire out this month and will be performing songs from his decades of touring and recording. Tickets £22.50

On Friday there’s Eagles tribute Ultimate Eagles. Tickets £15

There’s the return of another regular on Saturday with prog rockers Pendragon. They’ve been around since 1978, have recorded nine studio albums and a number of live recordings including last month’s release Out Of Order Comes Chaos and are apparently big in Poland. Tickets £15

Sunday sees the arrival of punk pioneers the Damned on what’s billed as their 35th anniversary tour even though they were formed in 1976. Famously the first punks to record, they’ve had chart success, toured incessantly, never taken themselves too seriously and have managed to retain original members Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible. Tickets £20
