Hills come alive with the sound of poetry

Inspired by the Olympic Games, the Andrew Logan Arts Festival draws on both local and incoming creative and artistic talent to stage a series of workshops, events and performances for the whole community to enjoy.

This year, two poets will be joining the festivities, performing their work in the beautiful Andrew Logan Gallery, and offering an open-to-all two day writing course.

Paul Henry and Helen Calcutt

The poets are leading Welsh poet Paul Henry, and illuminating poetic talent Helen Calcutt.

The course will offer you the chance to record, share, and draft your creative interpretations and stories into poetic form, drawing on the beautiful and inspirational landscapes of Berriew, and its gilded timeline the river Rhiw.

With the guidance and expertise of both writers, this two-day project will offer outdoor walks, writing, healthy activity, and group discussion to celebrate the words and voices of a land and its people.

On the Saturday evening, a performance of the poets’ work will be enjoyed by writers, staff, volunteers, and visitors alike, with an hour of poetry and conversation at The Museum, located just a stone’s throw from the parish of renowned Welsh poet R.S. Thomas.

Poets will read, and discuss their work, followed by a Q and A session with the audience. This is a chance to hear the views and inspirations of two writers from different generations, at very different stages in their careers.

This is sure to be a truly inspirational weekend, with the coming together of two glittering, musical voices, at the very heart of rural Wales.
