easyJet makes year-round commitment to Birmingham Airport with launch of Belfast route

easyJet has today announced that it will begin operating a year-round service between Belfast and Birmingham this autumn.

The daily service, which will operate seven days a week from 22 October 2012, will provide Birmingham travellers with the only direct route to Belfast International Airport.

Flights on the new route will go on sale on Monday 23 April, with fares starting from £22.99 (one way, including taxes).

The route will mainly serve the region’s business passengers by providing flexible access to Belfast but it will also offer more choice for leisure passengers seeking cost-effective access to Northern Ireland. The new route between Birmingham and Belfast reinforces easyJet’s commitment to the Midlands, and will see easyJet operating all year round flights from Birmingham Airport for the first time.

easyJet’s pledge is to make travel easy and affordable, and this new route will help boost business and leisure travel between the two cities.

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK commercial manager, said: “We’re excited to be expanding our network by launching easyJet’s first year-round route from Birmingham. The move marks easyJet’s commitment to strengthening its network across the UK with a particular focus on supporting business passengers. Our schedule, with flights operating at peak morning and evening times, also reflects our continued focus on meeting the needs of the business traveller, as well as offering leisure travellers affordable access to Northern Ireland.

“This route represents a major milestone in our network growth which sees easyJet operating year round from Birmingham for the first time ever. We are confident this new route will be a popular addition for passengers in the Midlands catering both for businesses looking to reduce their travel costs as well as leisure travellers seeking affordable city breaks.

“Importantly, it will also provide inbound tourism for Birmingham from the Northern Ireland capital city, benefitting the local economy and driving more footfall to England’s second city.”

The inaugural flight will take off from Birmingham Airport on 22 October, initially a daily service, and from 29 October will increase to two flights a day on weekdays, and one on weekends.

Martyn Lloyd, Air Services Development Director from Birmingham Airport, commented: “We’re delighted that such a successful and well known brand like easyJet is expanding from Birmingham, adding to its existing Geneva and Grenoble routes. Belfast City isn’t currently served from Birmingham so this is a major development for us and we are delighted that easyJet is committing to this expansion.”
