Make This Your Olympic Year – Skydive, Abseil, Cycle and Indoor Marathon Triathlon for a local charity

For Olympic Year 2012, local charity for the Blind, Queen Alexandra College (QAC) has organised a range of sponsored events for people to challenge themselves; whether it is facing a fear or testing their energy and endurance levels. And the best bit is by taking part you will be raising money for QAC, and helping their disabled learners overcome their own challenges and obstacles as they become independent adults.

Sarah Caldwell, Corporate & Community Fundraiser at QAC says “with the Olympics coming to London this year, we wanted to give people the chance to make 2012 their Olympic Year and support us in the process”.

So, what and when are these challenges? Well, the favourite annual skydive returns in September, where daredevil jumpers can leap out of a plane at 13,000 feet and feel the rush of adrenalin as you freefall through the skies.

Dudley Castle

Although this is always a great event, and definitely one for the thrillseekers out there, QAC are really excited about the new sponsored events happening this year. On Sunday 20th May, they will be joining forces with Beacon Centre for the Blind in Wolverhampton to abseil down the side of Dudley Castle. Although not quite as high as the skydive, the abseil still offers the opportunity to quell any fears of height. The event is open to anyone and everyone to take part, all they need to do is raise a minimum sponsorship of £75. Friends and family can join the fun on the day too, taking advantage of the reduced price entrance that Dudley Zoo are offering spectators.

Throughout June, QAC is hosting an Indoor Marathon Triathlon in the College’s Feelgood Fitness Centre , and are inviting people to sign up to complete  a 26 mile distance over three fitness disciplines – the treadmill, the bike and the rowing machine. This event is open to everyone, come rain or shine, to complete during June, and the team hope to cover at least 2012 miles in total raising as much money as possible from the £75 minimum sponsorship.
