Berlin based art-rockers, Art Brut are to headline a new indie festival coming to The Public in West Bromwich.

The Now We Are Weekender, taking place at the iconic Black Country arts centre over the Easter weekend of the 7 and 8 April, will feature over 30 bands and DJs from across the UK and Europe.

Famed for hits such as ‘I Formed a Band’, ‘Emily Kane’ and ‘Modern Art’, Art Brut, who formed in 2003, are renowned for their artsy punk rock songs and ability to generate a high energy party atmosphere wherever they perform live.  No strangers to the big time, the much loved five-piece have performed at festivals across the world including Glastonbury, V Festival, Reading and Leeds Festival, as well as Festival Internacional de Benicassim in Spain.

Over the course of the weekend, the Berlin outfit will be joined by Birmingham’s own cult collective, Misty’s Big Adventure, and Stephen Fry’s ‘favourite new indie band’, Welsh duo, Toy Horses.  Festival goers will also be treated to hyper-melodic pop from The School, as well as performances from BBC 6 Music favourites, The Lovely Eggs, and Abdoujaparov, featuring ex-Carter USM guitarist Les Carter.

After a recent competition run by festival organisers, Funny Looking Cat, six local artists have also been selected to play at the eagerly awaited weekender.  Dakota Beats, God Damn, Young Runaways, One Sixth of Tommy, Circus Town and Silver Souvenirs, will all have the unique opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of festival goers.

The Easter weekend mini-festival will present everything from twee indie pop to rock ‘n’ roll across two stages, and will also include a fascinating array of handcrafted merchandise stalls and family friendly workshops for all ages to enjoy.  Throughout the weekend festival goers will be able to tuck into a range of freshly prepared hot and cold food, and enjoy a selection of fine of real ales.

Emma Cooper, Manager of Funny Looking Cat said, “With just over a week to go plans for the festival are really beginning to take shape.  Now We Are certainly promises to be a weekend to remember and we fully anticipate hundreds of music fans will be absorbed by the festival vibe.”
