Albion on a roll

Terry Wills keeps on ‘boinging’ merrily.

Three wins on the bounce, another three points and a clean sheet. What’s going on at the Hawthorns? Whatever it is, Baggies fans are simply making a combined passionate plea – long may it continue.

Big spending Chelsea were the latest Greed League club to find themselves victims of Roy Hodgson’s revitalised Albion, despite the Match of the Day clips TRYING to show it was down to the Pensioners’ failings rather than the Baggies performance.Naturally there had to be a scapegoat so it was farewell to manager Andre-Villas Boas, sacked by Roman Abramovich. But not too many tears as due to his short time at the Bridge his bank balance would be boosted by a compensation cheque figure way above our comprehension.

All that’s immaterial. What really mattered was realising that this new Albion had at last discovered the art of winning matches. Simple really – stop the opposition scoring, notch a goal with a few minutes to go and defend in depth. For all that, despite Chelsea actually spurning a couple of earlier opportunities, if it hadn’t have been for keeper Petr Cech, their defeat would have been sealed long before that dragged out final whistle. They couldn’t offer any excuses and to be fair to they didn’t. “West Brom were superior in all departments. They deserved to win.” No arguments from me!

Every player on form. Further confirmation that in Ben Foster, Youssouf Mulumbu, Jonas Olsson, James Morrison and Marc-Antoine Fortune we have players that wouldn’t look out of place in any of the title challengers’ squads. The winning goal from Gareth McAuley did more than just win this game, it left us with the feeling that should Manchester United not be at their best on Sunday we could possibly add the Red Devils to this current impressive run.

Logic says that with United desperate to attain as many points as possible to keep in touch with neighbours City at the top of the table they have to be favourites. Yes, they will have played in the Europa League three days earlier, but for all that should they fail to win I would imagine Sir Alex won’t feel in the best of moods when facing the post-match media questions!

So, desperately hoping to be proved wrong, I feel United will take the points but what a bonus it would be for the travelling faithful should this new found Albion manage to repeat last season’s result. From 2-0 down, fighting back to force a draw and in the process becoming the only team to avoid defeat at the Theatre of Dreams.

But even if we do lose I’ll content myself with the realisation that six points from the likes of Sunderland, Chelsea, and Manchester United would have been most acceptable following that horrendous display against Swansea back on February 4th.

Come on you Baggies.
