What’s on at the Robin

A run-down of this week at Bilston’s finest.

Tonight the Robin moves to the Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton for one night as Walter Trout & Popa Chubby take the stage. After playing with John Mayall and John Lee Hooker amongst others, Walter has been a solo artist leading his own band for over 20 years. Popa, meanwhile, is a blues guitarist whose playing ability is complemented by a larger than life stage presence.   Tickets £20

On Thursday the Strawbs play a rare electric set. It’s almost forty years since they were regulars in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and one of the biggest live acts in the USA. They’re now regarded as one of the finest folk bands on the circuit, and although they tour regularly with an acoustic line-up this is one of their few UK dates where the power is switched full on. Tickets £14

Kike Dee & Carmelo Luggeri are performing on Friday. Their acoustic set combines the worlds of soul, pop and rock and has been honed over many years of playing together. Tickets £15

One of the highlights of the Robin calendar is the annual Christmas show by the Roy Wood rock’n’roll band. This time it’s taking place on Saturday which is when the festive season will be launched by one of the world’s greatest-ever songwriters. Tickets £15

On Sunday Heather Findlay will be appearing. Singing with Mostly Autumn for 13 years, during which time they moved from local hopefuls to classic rock stars, Heather’s solo work has been receiving rave reviews and she’s put together a band of experienced musicians who have played with many of the prog and classic rock greats. Tickets £10
