Our Christmas show returns and after last year’s successful run we are delighted to be working with Red Earth once more. This wonderfully staged show tells the story of Jub, whose job it is to make sure that the Happy Endings to all the stories in the world are delivered in time for everybody’s bedtime. One dark night a wicked witch catches Jub and steals all the Happy Endings; with help from her friends Jub must fight to get them back.
This unique reworking of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy’s children’s classic is an original take on festive entertainment.

Forget the panto kitsch – Sleeping Beauty is a powerful tale of death and rebirth. In this magical performance, award-winning storyteller Daniel Morden breathes new life into one of our most haunting stories. Telling Sleeping Beauty alongside the beautiful Greek myth of Alcestis, and underscoring the tales with heart-stopping live music, Daniel, Oliver and Dylan conjure timeless images in the mind and stir deep emotions in the heart.

smallprint:big impression is an international showcase of contemporary fine art printmaking, presenting artists from across the UK and as far afield as the US and New Zealand. A diverse range of printmaking techniques will be represented, including etching, lithography, and relief work as well as digital prints.
As part of the exhibition the smallprint:big impression prizewinner, Emma Grover, will be displaying a selection of her works at mac birmingham.

Their Wonderlands is an international group exhibition, curated by multi-disciplinary collective They Are Here. Contemporary artists have been drawn together to explore the space given to make-believe and folklore in post-industrial 21st century European society. The exhibition exists in darkness and you will be invited to select a torch on entry to discover works embedded in a cardboard labyrinth, designed by renowned and seminal architect Yona Friedman.

Four Tragic Tales

A recent graduate from MA Illustration and Animation at Coventry University, Stewart Easton’s work explores the intricate nature of language and relationships. Four Tragic Tales reveals the styles and techniques of drawing, mark making and embroidery skills that Easton has employed in the production of four large scale embroidered, narrative pieces. Often populated by symbols and references, Easton’s work contemporises the use of textiles within the context of the gallery space and draws the viewer in to a referential narrative of their own making.

Outrageous Fortune

Showcasing 78 artists’ interpretations of the classic Tarot de Marseille deck of cards,
Outrageous Fortune presents a contemporary tarot pack encompassing a variety of formal, conceptual, expressionist, literary or design based approaches. Each artist was drawn a card randomly and invited to reinterpret it in their own way.
Outrageous Fortune is a Hayward Touring exhibition from Southbank Centre, London on behalf of Arts Council England.
