Is it a van? Is it a cow? No, it’s the Moomobile, and it’s hitting the streets of Birmingham and the Black Country, to bring mobile healthcare to the area.
The quirky initiative is the work of Birmingham-based Moo Moo Youth Marketing (MMYM), as a direct approach to tackling the health inequalities originating from the poor access to health services in some areas of the Midlands.
Managing Director, Charlotte Slater said, “The Moo Moo Youth Marketing team is passionate about taking services to the people who need it; to what the government calls the ‘hard-to-reach’ and marginalised, but we believe in doing it whilst being funky and fun!”
Inside, the Moomobile is fully kitted out with a medical consultation area, a kitchen, toilet facilities, and is even heated, to provide a comfortable medical environment for those coming aboard.
The Moomobile is crewed by MMYM’s fully trained young Peer Workers, who accompany the driver around the city, with the mission of helping people to give up smoking, and offering under 25’s a Chlamydia test.
By creating jobs for young unemployed people in the area, and by bringing health services to areas where they’re needed the most, Moo Moo Youth Marketing will remain one of the UK’s most successful outreach organisations.
