Dancing the Night Away

Warwick Arts Centre have announced details of their autumn dance programme.

Australian Shaun Parker Company

Australian Shaun Parker Company

Kicking off the season in style are the Australian Shaun Parker Company, on their first ever tour to the UK with Happy as Larry. Set against the vibrant electro/acoustic score, the show looks at the elusiveness of human happiness through the nine personality types of the classic Enneagram. This promises to be a funny, playful and poignant dance show combining eclectic dance styles including ballet, break-dancing, roller-skating and highly physical contemporary dance.

Another uplifting show will be Big Bag of Boom from Roden and Shenton’s New Art Club, combining dance with comedy as only they know how. Big Bag of Boombrings together their silliest, most explosive moments from a decade of award-winning shows – an unmissable event for both New Art Club’s loyal fans and newcomers to their extraordinary way of seeing the world.

Time Gentlemen Please! features the Demon Barber Roadshow and invites you to “forget every preconception you’ve ever had.” This show brings together the best in young folk music and dance and a team of the best street dancers in the country. Clog, rap and morris meet B-boying, popping and krump in a humorous visual feast.

Finally, DV8 Physical Theatre return to Warwick Arts Centre with Can We Talk About This? from 9th–11th November, focusing on the controversial issues of freedom of speech, censorship and offence.

The production looks at various instances of censorship from the 1989 book burnings of Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses to the controversy surrounding the Muhammed cartoons in 2005 and how these events have reflected and influenced multicultural policies, press freedom and artistic censorship.

Following up from their critically acclaimed To Be Straight With You, seen at Warwick Arts Centre in 2008 this documentary-style dance-theatre production will use real-life interviews and archive footage. Contributors include a number of high profile writers, campaigners and politicians.
