Albion Round-Up

Terry Wills is trying to forget most of last Saturday.

I reckon it’s fair to say that a large majority of Baggies fans in the Stadium of Light at kick-off time would have settled for the point we already had and gone straight home without a ball being kicked.

One definite point set against the possibility of another defeat would automatically be much preferred.

But when a side opens up a 2-0 lead inside five minutes, looks comfortable on the ball, appear well in control, and set for a much needed victory, that initial thought has a tendency to be forgotten.

Me? I would definitely have been satisfied but then the truth sets in.

The goals from James Morrison and Shane Long bought smiles all round, so very different from the final whistle feelings when the realisation was that it had been a game that should have given a vote of confidence to Roy Hodgson, the players, and the supporters. No in depth match report, everyone’s seen the televised highlights or read the media reports, so let’s leave at that for now and hope this doesn’t become a habit.

Early days yet but one point off the bottom three clubs makes one realise that it is going to be hard to stabilise a ‘comfortable’ position should teams such as Norwich, Swansea, and Bolton hit a winning run. Roy Hodgson still appears to be uncertain as to what exactly his best formation is but it must be worrying that that Messrs Odemwingie and Long seem unable to function as a striking partnership.

4-5-I or 4-4-2 ? All we can do is wait and see and as the next two opponents after this week’s International break just happen to be a certain Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa (!) Baggies fans won’t care what the best formation might be as long as the results go our way.

At least the break gives us the opportunity to see whether the England can safely qualify for the next World’s Cup without having a massive struggle. Let’s hope they can succeed and should Albion begin to start looking which teams are behind them in the lower regions of the Greed League – as opposed to worrying about those above them – then the happier every Albion fan will be!

Come on you Baggies.
