Professional boxing returns to Walsall Town Hall on Saturday (4th June) with a show full of local talent and featuring the debuts of two promising youngsters.
Topping the bill will be a clash between unbeaten Tipton prospect Lee Glover and Newcastle’s Dougie Curran over ten rounds for the International Masters featherweight title. Despite having had just five contests (all won), Glover is moving up the British ratings and a convincing win over the much more experienced Curran will see him enhance his reputation as one of the region’s finest prospects.
Chief support sees undefeated Coseley middleweight Jamie Ball aiming to edge his way into title contention when facing Andrejs Loginovs, a Latvian who put up a good show against upcoming British title challenger Nick Blackwell in April.
Making their debuts in the paid ranks will be light-heavyweight Adam Corbett of West Bromwich, who will be up against journeyman James Tucker, and Saquib Amir of Cradley Heath, facing Welsh featherweight Chuck Jones.
Also on the bill is Chelmsley welterweight Tom Costello, whose promising career has been put on hold recently with just one fight since February 2009, but who will be aiming to make up for lost time when facing another Latvian, Ivars Sedlins. Another local welter, Jason Welbourn of Tividale, takes on Lincoln’s Rick Boulter.
Doors open at 7pm, the action is scheduled to start at 8. Tickets are £30 and £50 (ringside), available from promoter PJ Rowson on 07976-283157.
