Supersonic - A celebration of Creation Records

Music fans are invited to a unique event at Light House in Wolverhampton in celebration of Creation Records, which was home to genre-defining bands Oasis, Primal Scream, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Super Furry Animals to name a few.

Light House presents: Supersonic promises to be a unique mix of film and music with special guests Tim and Chris Abbot, former director and A&R man at the label respectively, who will introduce a screening of the recently released documentary Upside Down and then DJ after the film, alongside live music from Wolverhampton band – The Partizan Elektra.

The evening will kick off with a screening of the new documentary Upside Down (cert 15). This fascinating story of Creation, one of the world’s most successful (and colourful) independent record labels, is retold through archival footage, revealing interviews with Creation’s main characters and great music.

Founded in 1983 by 23-year-old Alan McGee, Creation was home to some of the most genre-defining bands of the era, including The Jesus and Mary Chain, Super Furry Animals, Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub and, most lucratively, Oasis. A decade after it folded, this film tells it all: the successes, the excesses, the drugs, breakdowns, bankruptcy and bust-ups – the whole wild rock and roll history. The screening will be introduced by former director at Creation Records Tim Abbot and A&R man for the label Chris Abbot, both successful music entrepreneurs and filmmakers.

Following the film, the audience can experience the psychedelic sounds of Wolverhampton’s The Partizan Elektra who will be playing in the courtyard of the historic Chubb Buildings. For more info on The Partizan Elektra visit facebook/ThePartizanElektra. The night will continue with Creation DJ sets from Tim & Chris Abbot and Sim Spaceman (Sound of Confusion).

Light House Marketing Coordinator Lindsay Wiggin said, “We are really lucky to have Tim and Chris Abbot introducing this special screening as they were at the heart of the Creation label and in particular worked closely with Oasis through the heights of their career. This is a great Saturday night out for any music fans in the city with the night featuring hotly tipped local band The Partizan Elektra and Creation inspired DJ sets from the Abbot brothers and Sim Spaceman.”

Light House is located in the historic Chubb Buildings in Wolverhampton city centre, just 2 minutes walk from Wolverhampton Rail Station.
