What’s On at the Robin

Joanne Shaw Taylor

Joanne Shaw Taylor

On Tuesday, Robin regular Joanne Shaw Taylor will be performing. Widely regarded as the best female blues act in the country, Joanne’s pedigree belies her youth. She’s already played with BB King and Bill Wyman amongst others, her latest album Diamonds in the Dirt has received rave reviews and her new band are highly-regarded in their own right. Tickets £12.50

The following night sees another regular in the form of John Otway. The greatest rock’n’roll eccentric Britain has ever produced has put behind him the days when he was often only just outnumbered by the audience and has become a star once more. Now back with his original partner Wild Willie Barrett, Otway is many things but ‘boring’ will never be one of them. Or ‘predictable,’ for that matter. Tickets £13.

The third in the week’s trio of tried and tested names comes to Bilston on Thursday. Over the years the band fronted by Colin Blunstone has changed its name gradually, until they are now unashamedly billed as the Zombies, reflecting the way in which this classic sixties band have become fashionable once more. With Blunstone’s solo work and material from keyboard player Rod Argent added to their set, they’re always good value. Tickets £15.

As ever, Sunday afternoon sees the free acoustic session in Woody’s bar, while the evening features a showcase of local talent. Headliners The Just are an indie band from Walsall, Cannock;s The Grade take their influences from such sources as Radiohead, FuNKed Up are a covers band and Contingency are rock/hardcore. There’s bound to be something you like there. Tickets £5.
