Writing on the Wall

By Dave Woodhall.

I was at the London Book Fair on Tuesday. This is one of the biggest trade fairs in the world for the book industry, attracting everyone from authors and publishers to companies offering assorted ‘solutions’. It can all get a bit samey after a few hours, but one bright idea really made me stop and take note, as it did a lot of other visitors.

Spineless Classics, who only really got going last year, take classic (or not so well-known) novels and fit the entire text onto a wall-mounted print, usually in the shape of an image associated with the book. Admittedly the print is minuscule and it would be virtually impossible to read the whole thing in this way, but that’s hardly the point. They look very impressive.

The Hound of the Baskervilles printed as the familiar outline of Sherlock Holmes, compete with deerstalker and pipe, or Pride & Prejudice in the shape of the main characters, are just two of the designs available but the company are open to any suggestions.

Spineless Classics are available from a growing number of retailers, on Amazon or via their website www.spinelessclassics.com either framed or unframed.
