Explore foreign lands at mac in May

Explore Foreign LandsOver a decade ago, writer and performer Jonathan Young fell in love with an Icelandic woman and went to live with her in Reykjavik. In this multi sensory and immersive performance the audience is invited to journey with Jonathan through his memories of a foreign land and a lost love.

The performance will take place in a set draped in white, diaphanous sheets and the audience will be asked to don white, protective suits. Like forensic scientists they will join Jonathan as he pieces together fragmented memories of his time in Reykjavik. Initially optimistic, Jonathan is fascinated by Iceland’s frozen landscape of glaciers and volcanoes, by its strange and difficult language. However, as time passes and winter descends, his experience of Reykjavik begins to change.

Created in collaboration with neuroscientist Hugo Spiers, and exploring the limits of recollection and remembrance, this playful performance asks how far can we trust our own memory?

‘This genuinely intriguing piece of storytelling theatrehas both an icy precision and the quality of a dream or a recurring nightmare.’ Lyn Gardner, The Guardian

‘Disconcerting, absorbing and very moving.’ The List
