Cities, towns and villages all over the country, including communities in West Midlands, are joining together to celebrate this year’s launch of the UK’s biggest community activity. ‘RHS Britain in Bloom’, supported by Anglian Home Improvements, involves over 210,000 volunteers  in over 2,100 communities.

This week 320 communities across the UK, of which six are in West Midlands, will launch their ‘RHS Britain in Bloom’ campaign by planting over 84,000 native tree saplings donated by the Woodland Trust.

The campaign’s national launch is taking place at the Redman, Lant and Bittern estates in Borough, London where residents are rolling up their sleeves and planting their tree saplings within a wildlife hedge.

Helen John from Bankside Open Spaces Trust, who is organising the event with the local tenants’ and residents’ association (Redman, Lant and Bittern TRA), says: “We welcome everyone from the SE1 community and thank them for helping us with this marvelous ‘RHS Britain in Bloom’ event. We are also starting to build a food garden on site to help people from Bankside to grow their own as part of our larger food-growing project based in SE1.”

Martin Troughton from Anglian Home Improvements says “This is a fantastic start to our link with ‘RHS Britain in Bloom’. So many people are involved in the launch and this is reflective of the passion we all share for the environment and the communities we all live in.”

“Many communities benefit from participation in ‘RHS Britain in Bloom’, says Stephanie Eynon, RHS Community Horticulture Manager. “This launch is a great example of what the campaign is all about – local people getting involved and making a genuine difference in their community.”
