Opportunity for Sandwell artists

The Public in West Bromwich are inviting local artists to submit work to a special Summer Exhibition.

After receiving over 70 submissions to the summer open exhibition in 2010, the West Bromwich arts centre is once again providing a unique opportunity for artists with a connection to Sandwell to display their work in an art gallery for free.

The annual exhibition aims to actively encourage creativity within the local community by nurturing talent and providing residents the opportunity to showcase their work to a mass audience.  The region is rich in artistic talent and The Public are looking to celebrate this artistic excellence.

The Summer Exhibition will have two themes; ‘Portraits’, inspired by the gallery’s portrait studio, and ‘Industry and Industrial Heritage’, showcasing the rich industrial roots of the Black Country.

Artists are invited to submit up to three pieces of work, in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, printmaking as well as other 2D and 3D work.  All artwork selected for the exhibition will be displayed from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 18 September 2011 alongside artwork from both upcoming and internationally renowned artists.

The Summer Exhibition is part of the Sandwell Arts Festival which runs from Monday 11 to Saturday 23 July.  The annual festival aims to showcase the multitude of talent within the area, with a variety of fun filled events and activities organised to take place across the region’s six towns.

To submit artwork to be considered for the exhibition simply email a photograph of your work to www.thepublic.com.  Alternatively call 0121 533 7161.

The closing date for submissions is Monday 6 June and applicants will be notified by Thursday 30 June.  The work will be selected by The Public’s exhibitions team and wider staff, alongside representatives from the local community.  The Summer Exhibition runs from Wednesday 6 July to Sunday 18 September, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm and Sunday, 11am to 3pm.
