Tuesday 22nd March:
Martineau Centre – 9am-12.45pm –Teachers’ Carbon Conference: Many headteachers took part in carbon reduction workshops led by the Carbon Trust in November 2010. They have since developed projects and action plans in their schools, significantly reducing their energy consumption with behaviour change. This conference takes the work forward and will give feedback from participating schools.
Local Food Fair – Midland Co-operative at the Birmingham Midland Institute – 3pm-5pm: The Midland Co-op will be giving free samples of their new locally-sourced food range including locally-sourced beer.
Council House – 5.15pm-7.30pm – A night with Rob Hopkins (author of the Transition Handbook and leader of the ‘Transition Towns’ movement): This will be followed by the Making Birmingham Green Community Awards where community and voluntary organisations will be presented with certificates in recognition of their work on low carbon community projects funded through the Birmingham Environmental Partnership. Open to all.
Wednesday 23rd March – Launch of Birmingham Green Restaurant Awards – Moor Hall Hotel, Sutton Coldfield: Cllr Timothy Huxtable is launching Birmingham’s Green Restaurant Awards at the venue of the winners of the 2010 award. Entrants will be judged on what actions they have taken to improve the environment and sustainability in the categories of: waste management, energy reduction, staff and community and purchasing. Attendance by Invitation only.
Thursday 24th March –Thomas Vale Construction and Urban Design Sustainability Day at Woodcock Street: A number of schools are attending the construction site of Birmingham City Council’s soon-to-open administrative building to interact with a number of exhibits designed to help improve their knowledge of the construction industry.
Friday 25th March CABE/MADE Schools ‘Green Day’ teacher training day at the new MAC in Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston: More than 40 teachers and practitioners from across the West Midlands will be trained on how to run a Green Day in their schools. Green Days will then take place the week commencing 5th June of this year, when everything on the curriculum has a sustainable theme.
