99 not out for charity fundraiser

Inspirational Mary raises over £1,300 for hospice.

Super-volunteer Mary Harvey has raised over £1,300 for John Taylor Hospice. The inspirational 99-year-old led a sponsored walk around The Ring in Perry Common last month to amass the charitable donation.

Mary was accompanied on the walk by Erdington MP, Jack Dromey and cheered on by local dignitaries which included the Chief Constable of West Midlands Police, Sir David Thompson and city councillor Robert Alden. Also in attendance were Witton Lodge Community Association staff and volunteers, local residents and well wishers.

This afternoon the soon-to-be centenarian visited the facility on Grange Road with Witton Lodge Community Association Chair, Linda Hines to present a cheque for £1,341.02 to Sally Redmond, Community Fundraiser for John Taylor Hospice.

“We are so grateful to Mary and all of the team at Witton Lodge Community Association for supporting John Taylor Hospice and raising such an incredible amount,” said Sally.

“This will make such a difference to patients and their families in our care. Well done Mary and thank you!”

John Taylor Hospice has a rich history within the local community, having provided specialist, much-needed care for generations of families since 1907. More information on available services at the hospice can be found here.
