Blues suffered their second successive defeat at Craven Cottage, but must feel gutted that it arrived in the dying stages of the game having held promotion-chasing Fulham fairly comfortably throughout the match. It’s just a shame that the team couldn’t put away a couple of very decent chances that we had in the first half when our attack looked so dangerous on the break.
However, with Barnsley and Luton suffering big morale-sapping defeats and Wigan looking like the EFL are pushing them off the Pier, then three points from our remaining games should do the trick.
Of course, this is easier said than done when you’re not on the best of form, but Saturday’s game saw some more encouraging signs at last.
Jake Clarke-Salter looked more like a proper Chelsea loanee alongside the returning Marc Roberts, who took no prisoners. The waspish Ivan Sunjic was a real asset giving others the room to play whilst up top Jeremie Bela was a bundle of tricks
Finally, even without the Juke, his partner in crime Scott Hogan looked for the first time since the restart that he was finding his feet, zipping around with menace. If he can continue to do this with the Juke playing next to him we should be okay.
For Jude Bellingham, it’s been a long season for a lad of tender years even without the speculation about his future and I would be tempted to rest him against Swansea, bringing back the Juke and playing Dan Crowley, Gary Gardner (if he’s fit) and Sunjic, with Bela out wide. Food for thought.
