Hollywood comes to Artrix

Classic films season to air at arts centre.

As part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Earth and presented by ICO (Independent Cinema Office) Artrix cinema audiences can enjoy a season celebrating the joyful, emotional, shared experience of watching classic film musicals on the big screen.

The season begins on Friday 13th December at 11am with the legendary romantic musical comedy Singin’ In The Rain (U). Starring Gene Kelly at his quicksilver best, dancing with exquisite skill alongside the late Debbie Reynolds in her most effervescent screen role, Singin’ In The Rain on the big screen at Artrix is a must see.

Next up, Artrix is showing Guys and Dolls (U) on Tuesday 17th December at 11am. Based on the popular 1950 Broadway play, the joyously entertaining Guys and Dolls stars Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and Marlon Brando (in his only musical role). A wonderful chance to see songs including Luck Be A Lady and Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat on the big screen.

What better way to enjoy the gap between Christmas and New Year than to watch a Sing-a-long screening of the Doris Day classic Calamity Jane (U) at Artrix cinema on Saturday 28th December at 7.30pm. Dust off your Stetson, polish those cowboy boots and sing along with the luminous Doris Day in Calamity Jane, one of her best-loved films and a genuine cult classic.

Featuring the anthemic song The Black Hills Of Dakota and the Oscar Award-winning ballad Secret Love. Whip-crack-away!
