Blades blunted

Andy Munro is impressed by Blues’ 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

This wasn’t unlike the Leeds game, with Blues surrendering most of the possession but looking dangerous on the break. Also similar to the Leeds game, Blues started out a bit lethargic and certainly missed the unfortunate Kleftenbeld’s energy as Dave Davis again seemed a bit off the pace as, in fact, did Gary Gardner. This meant that, too often, we were outmanouevred as the Blades played some neat triangles.

However, luckily the opposition were a bit toothless and Blues grew into the game which became nip and tuck until Sheffield scored the opener with a rasping shot for which it would be a bit unfair to blame Camp. Luckily Blues quickly levelled the scores when Morrison hammered home from yet another well-delivered corner by Connor Mahoney. Both sides then huffed and puffed their way to half-time with Che Adams particularly coming in for some rough treatment from his old club. It didn’t help that service to him and the Juke was a mix of wayward and hit and hope.

With Villa losing and Reading and Wigan in the lead, the equaliser had been a massive relief and the second half continued to be tense for both sides and although Camp had to pull off an excellent save, the introduction of Jota made a difference as he played in Adams who was denied by a brilliant save before Jota nearly netting himself.

In the final analysis it was a gritty performance and a deserved share of the points against a decent but not outstanding side and with other results eventually going our way, it was a point won rather than ones lost.
