Medieval meets modern through video imagery

Warwick Castle joins forces with Birmingham production company.

Boasting almost a thousand years of history, Warwick Castle has collaborated with Innovation Birmingham-based production company CMA Video to deliver a modern-day celebration of the medieval site’s 950th anniversary.

Exactly 950 individual pictures were combined to form a one-off portrait mosaic in April to honour William the Conqueror, who built the original castle in 1068.

The production company, based within the Barclays Eagle Labs accelerator at the Innovation Birmingham Campus, captured the developments piece by piece through a four-hour time-lapse. Reflecting on a year since the business chose to base its operations at Innovation Birmingham, Adam Snelleksz, Co-Founder and Marketing Director at CMA Video said: “We are delighted to be working with Warwick Castle to promote its 950th anniversary celebrations. Filming the project with time lapse footage was a great way to show how their mosaic artwork came together and the end result looked fantastic.”

A series of cameras captured proceedings as school children and visitors to the castle created the commemorative collage by taking selfies and combining their pictures to form the portrait. Discussing CMA’s national acclaim received for the project, Adam added: “We were also very proud to see our footage featured both on ITV and BBC local news and we worked closely with both broadcasters to provide the footage in the correct format and in a timescale to meet their broadcasting deadlines.”

Servicing a range of sectors including marketing, events and conferencing, CMA Video has experienced widespread success since its induction to the Innovation Birmingham Campus during May 2017, developing its national client base.

The project signifies another development in an already fruitful partnership between the Merlin Group and CMA Video, with other work in the portfolio including Christmas, Halloween and other seasonal events held at the Castle, as well as material for the Sea Life Centres, Lego Land and York Dungeon.
