Only the Blues…

Blues’ defeat at QPR means it’s all on the last match, as Andy Munro reports.

We should all have known better than to buy a new pair of slippers and get the pipe cleaners out ready for the Fulham match.

In truth, Blues didn’t deserve anything because, as Garry Monk pointed out, the players played with fear and reticence, which is most unlike the recent Monk-inspired play. Adams’ goal was a false dawn as Rangers applied the pressure and it rubbed salt in the wounds when that ex-Alvechurch pariah of ours, Matt Smith, scored yet again against the Blues to notch QPR’s third.

Monk certainly can’t be blamed for keeping almost the same team as played against the Blades. I suppose in hindsight Ndoye for Kieftenbeld might not have been the best decision but it’s easy to be wise after the event.

Despite Blues typically building us up mentally only to knock us down, I still think we will survive. Word gets around and if Cardiff are winning next week then there is nothing Fulham can do to get the automatic place.

Villa did us a favour in getting an equaliser as Derby need at least a point to be sure of the play-offs because Preston are istill n with a shout. Luckily for us Preston are playing Burton and Derby have got Barnsley. In addition, Bolton’s match against Forest may be academic to us due to the goal difference.

However, let’s hope that a capacity St Andrews crowd will roar us on to some sort of result against the Cottagers. Whatever happens, is Garry Monk the right man for Blues in the future? Much as I hate the phrase…yes, 100%!
