Transfer deadline blues

Andy Munro assesses the Blues squad for the rest of the season.

However, for once, these were the Blues of the right sort as TTA put their money where their mouth is and it seemed as if Harry had come all over Barry Fry with a whole host of signings to add to the existing collection. While many of these were loans and frees with a decent number of outgoings as well, it was still expenditure that we haven’t seen down the Blues for many a year.

Now the question is whether everybody can successfully bed in before we get into a relegation scrap rather than a promotion push. This all seems a bit reminiscent of last season’s scenario at Villa Park when both Di Matteo and Brucie spent like kiddies in a sweetshop to little immediate effect.

Okay, we’ve got rid of Shotton (who left with class despite an apparent undercurrent), Kleftenbeld, a good servant who we all wish well, Keite, who is a talent who will hopefully return or be sold on at a massive profit, and Donaldson whose been a great club servant but is now past his sell by date.

In comes the captain of Brentford to bolster and stiffen our central defence, Colin,a quality full back from the same club, a club record transfer fee for Brentford’s playmaker, Jota, to bring some much-needed quality and vision (backed up by loanee Liam Walsh from Everton) and the exciting wing forward prospect that is Chelsea’s Boga.

Where will they all play? Well, that’s another story but we all like to play football manage’ when there’s no fear of the sack so here’s my take playing a ‘proper’ 4-4-2: Stockdale; Colin, Dean, Morrison, Bramall; Boga, Jota, Lowe, Davies; Vasell, Gallagher. Subs; Kuscak, Roberts, Gardner, Jutkiewicz, Maghoma, Adams
