Leisure centre opportunities for local businesses

Birmingham suppliers and contractors were given an exclusive chance to find out about contracts relating to four new leisure centre sites at FinditinBirmingham’s Meet the Buyer event, hosted by ISG.

Held earlier this month, 130 Birmingham businesses went to hear about current and future supply chain opportunities, as well as finding out about the work that is planned for each of the sites, which include Erdington, Stetchford Cascades, Icknield Port Loop in Edgbaston and Northfield. In addition, Wayne Flannery, Midlands Regional Director at ISG, discussed the smart use of build design to provide the best facilities to its visitors once they open to the public.

ISG, the principal contractor behind the projects, talked to local suppliers and contractors about the materials and services they need for the sites, particularly for Icknield Port Loop in Edgbaston, where work is due to begin in October 2017.

After a successful presentation, attendees were given the chance to speak to ISG’s buyers one-on-one, as well as meeting them at their exhibition stand where they helped answer queries for those interested in the opportunities available.

Iain Cox, Commercial Manager at ISG, commented: “We want to work with local suppliers to develop our latest four leisure centre projects so the Meet the Buyer event with FinditinBirmingham has helped us develop relationships ready to forge ahead with plans. It has been a positive experience and one which will reap the rewards for local contractors.”

Maureen Griffiths, Birmingham City Council, said: “These four leisure centre sites are going to generate significant local opportunities across the city over the coming months and it is important Birmingham businesses know about them as they happen.

“The breakfast meeting provided ISG with an opportunity to forge essential relationships within the local supply chain, which will prove invaluable as the projects start to take shape.”

The FinditinBirmingham website, with over 36,000 members and numerous live contract opportunities, aims to bring together contractors and suppliers together to provide supply chain opportunities to the local economy.
