Cheshire in Lichfield

New production for drama company.

The Lichfield Players are adding the finishing touches to their next production Cheshire Cats by Gail Young and being performed in the Garrick Studio Theatre from 7.45pm on 19th–23rd July.

Over the last ten years, Lichfield Players director Sarah Stanley has directed a number of plays all with people based stories and depth of meaning. Cheshire Cats is no exception and this heart-warming comedy follows the emotional journey of a group of girls as they speedwalk their way to fund raising success in the London Moonwalk.

Gail Young was inspired to write the play in 2003 following her own family’s experiences of cancer. Gail’s own personal experience with it gave her the determination to see the play published – something that she achieved in 2011. Cheshire Cats is full of laughs, trials, camaraderie, not to mention bitchiness! Trainers and wildly decorated bras are in, high heels and designer labels out – but a last minute substitute to the team doesn’t meet the physical criteria!

Sarah Stanley reported “The play has really come together and I am sure this is because the story was written about a group of friends and we are a group of friends working on the production. Some of us have situations in our own lives that relate to the play and this shows in the convincing performances by the cast. I hope that audiences will feel inspired to help our chosen charity St Giles Hospice – something they can do via our website should they wish”.

With a minimal set the focus is on the story and individual performances from some of Lichfield’s well known actresses. Producer Ian Davies commented, “The timing is slick with quick prop changes and filmed back drops. The show promises to be funny and full of feeling and optimism – a must see for the season”.
