Enchanted walk for St Mary’s Hospice

New experience is part of a record schedule of events in 2016.

There is still chance to sign up for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s first ever Enchanted Midsummer Walk, on Saturday June 18th.

The magical 10km circular route from King Edward VI School for Girls will take people on a relaxed journey through leafy Edgbaston, Harborne and Selly Oak, where they will be entertained throughout by performers on stilts, magicians, jugglers, fire blowers, hoop performers and storytellers.

The event aims to raise more than £25,000 for the hospice in Raddlebarn Road, Selly Oak, through registration and sponsorship. Each participant will be provided with a support kit and advice from the team to help them with their fundraising.

Lucy Watkins, Events Manager at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “We wanted to offer something new and fun for people that are dedicating their time and support to the hospice. The Enchanted Midsummer Walk is perfect for all ages and abilities due to its calm and steady pace and entertainment along the route. On the warm summer evening, walkers will get to enjoy a beautiful part of the city before joining us for refreshments and music after.

“It costs around £22,000 to run the hospice each day and so the support for this event could really help us to continue to provide the service that we do for our patients, their family and friends.”

Taking part in the Enchanted Midsummer Walk is the Hospice catering team who hope to raise £1,000 through sponsorship.

Julie Price, senior cook at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said: “We wanted to take part in the Enchanted Midsummer Walk as a team as we think it’s a great way to not only have fun but to fundraise for the Hospice. We think everybody should take part as the Hospice is an important place for the community.”
