A pirate’s life for Free Radio presenter

Presenter to star in charity performance in aid of St Basil’s.

There’s set to be a special voyage to Treasure Island this December, as The Old Rep Theatre helps to raise money for St Basil’s with a special performance on Friday 18th December.

Starring Free Radio’s Andy Goulding for one night only, the magical swashbuckling production follows the classic tale of Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins, featuring plenty of buccaneers and buried gold for the whole family to enjoy. Brimming with energy, laugh-out-loud pirate fun and a catchy original musical score, Andy joins the cast of professional actors and talented students in both the pre-show entertainment and main-stage production.

Taking place on Friday 18th December at Birmingham’s The Old Rep Theatre, the charity performance is helping to support the work of St Basil’s charity, which supports young people across Birmingham who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with advice, accommodation and support services to help them regain the stability they need to rebuild their lives. With tickets for the special performance available for just £10, all of the money from the night will be donated directly to St Basil’s, to help the charity continue their work within the region.

Scott Ritchie, director and producer of Treasure Island, said: “The whole production has been created here in Birmingham, from being exclusively written for The Old Rep audience, to auditioning local actors and students for roles in the show, so when we considered a charity performance it was a no-brainer to look for one with a strong Birmingham angle.

“St Basil’s has an outstanding reputation and is an invaluable resource to young people in need, which combined with our passion for supporting young students and talented performers in the region to access a wealth of opportunities, really was the perfect match.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be able to bring a special charity performance of Treasure Island to The Old Rep, and we’re really excited to see Andy in action as part of our Pirate Crew!”

Steve Rainbow, fundraising organiser at St Basil’s added: “We’re incredibly grateful to be the chosen charity to benefit from this special performance of Treasure Island, which will go a long way to support our work in the region. With a strong ethos to support young people and give them access to a host of unique opportunities, the theatre is perfectly aligned with our work as a charity.

“We’re really looking forward to attending the performance on 18th December, and working closely with The Old Rep going forward!”
