Food of love

Birmingham restaurant hailed one of the most romantic in the country.

Birmingham’s Annexe has been voted one of the three most romantic restaurants in the UK. Following a nationwide public vote, the local favourite has been selected alongside Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden and Kendell’s Bistro in Leeds.

“Since we started in 2011, we have worked really hard to serve great contemporary food in an atmosphere of vintage elegance” says founder Alex Fisher. “I am delighted that customers have found our offering so romantic as to show such overwhelming support for Annexe, voting us into the top three in the country”

Annexe have been voted ahead of some of the UK’s most fashionable restaurants, including Beach Blanket Bablyon (Notting Hill and Shoreditch), Aqua Shard (31st Floor of The Shard) and the iconic Waterside Inn (Bray).

Co-founder and Restaurant Manager Damien Portefaix admits, “For a Frenchman there could be few distinctions more gratifying than an award for romance! I am lucky to be able to share my passion for the Annexe love story with so many people every day.”

Annexe, along with many other leading Birmingham restaurants, are contributing to Birmingham’s reputation as one of the best places to dine out in the UK.

“There are so many great restaurants in Birmingham, we almost don’t know how lucky we are” states Suzie Russell, Annexe’s Head Chef and a native of Birmingham. “The number of first-rate chefs in this city is astounding and growing all the time”.

The Romantics awards, which celebrate the UK’s most romantic things, were created by Mills & Boon, the leading publisher of romantic fiction, to help unique, boutique businesses to get discovered and to help the audience discover the best of UK romance, from intriguing new ideas to much-loved favourites.

Annexe will be attending the awards ceremony in London on Wednesday 29th April hoping to put themselves and Birmingham even more boldly on the gastronomic map.
