Local military college on recruitment drive

Moves follows “damning” survey findings.

Birmingham’s Military Preparation College has launched a major recruitment drive for local 16-19 year olds who want to boost their fitness, confidence and employment prospects.

The campaign coincides with a national survey conducted by MPCT which shows that the average young Brit can expect to cut time spent keeping fit and active in half once they finish their GCSEs, and that 70% of 16-30 year olds say they do less exercise now than they did in school. That said, more than 90% say they would like to be much fitter.

In response to these findings, all 16 of the MPCT branches across the UK will be holding Open Days for interested learners and their families on 1st April 2015 and throughout the month of April, where they will be able to experience the unique style of ‘active learning’ that earned the Military Preparation College an Ofsted Grade 1 Outstanding rating in every area last year.

At the same time, the College has launched an inspiring new recruitment film entitled #IAMMPCT, showing typical activities enjoyed by students on a daily basis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvzkYSjziNg

Amongst key findings of MPCT’s new research were that seven in ten young adults are doing less sport and exercise now than they did during their school years, over 30% of respondents described themselves as an ‘inactive’ person now and nine out of ten said that they would like to be much fitter than they are at the moment.

Nathan Gibbons, Physical Literacy Manager at MPCT, said: “We find the results of this survey very interesting – the key take out for me is that whilst a third describes themselves as inactive, over 90% are keen to increase the amount of exercise they do. We have young people sign up for MPCT all the time whose main focus is improving on their fitness and we work hard with them to achieve their goals. So there is a desire there, it’s just about taking that first step.”

The College is free to attend, and new learners can join on a weekly basis.
