It’s a big scren month at Artrix.

In one of the most powerful and affecting films of last year Ida tells the story of an orphan called Anna who learns of her Jewish heritage and family’s fate during the Nazi occupation.

In one of his last appearances on screen before his untimely death, Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in A Most Wanted Man. This Hamburg-set Le Carré thriller links the worlds of espionage and banking.

In Diplomacy, the Swedish Consul General tries to persuade the Commander of Paris not to destroy the city after the German retreat in 1914.

The ever-popular Maggie Smith plays a stubborn sitting tenant in a Parisian apartment in My Old Lady and Bill Murray takes the lead in St Vincent as a war veteran who befriends his new neighbour.

Also showing are Kon-Tiki, the story of Thor Heyerdal’s 1947 crossing of the Pacific and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies in which Bilbo struggles to fight a new threat to Middle Earth.
