Barclays to sponsor Press lunch

Annual event to raise money for children in hospital.

Young hospital patients are to get an early Christmas present – thanks to Barclays sponsorship of Birmingham Press Club’s annual Christmas lunch.

Proceeds from the raffle will be going to Ward 11, the paediatric department, at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Northfield, which provides individualised holistic care for children with injuries and diseases of the bone and joints.

“The hospital is a national centre of excellence and has a world reputation for research and pioneering development. But it still needs backing from charitable funds to provide support and enhance the environment and facilities for patients,” said Ray O’Donoghue, Birmingham-based Managing Director of Barclays Corporate.

“That’s why we would like to support Ward 11, which in the past year has undergone a major refurbishment and upgrading of facilities to improve patient privacy and dignity and provide a playroom for the younger children.

“In fact, during the next few months we plan to work closely with the hospital to secure all the things on their ‘wish list’ for the playroom,” added Ray.

Press Club Chairman Ed James said: “Barclays is a long-term supporter of the Press Club and we are delighted that it is to sponsor our Christmas lunch – one of the highlights of our social calendar. Proceeds from the raffle will provide something a little bit extra for those youngsters unfortunate enough to spend Christmas in hospital – and I hope everyone will dig deep in their pockets.”

The Press Club lunch takes place at Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Centre Studio, on Tuesday, December 16th, when ventriloquist-comedian Paul Zerdin will be the celebrity guest. Paul is one of the stars at this year’s pantomime at Birmingham Hippodrome – Jack and the Beanstalk, which runs from Friday, December 19th until Sunday, February 1st.
