City college sponsors business dinner

Event emphasises links between education and business.

Abbey College Birmingham celebrates business in Birmingham by sponsoring the Institute of Asian Businesses (IAB) EID celebration dinner, which highlights the importance of business within the city.

Principal at Abbey College Birmingham Stephen Robinson, and Vice Principal Operations and Development, Shahzad Hussain, both spoke at the event, held to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.

The Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Shafique Shah, was amongst the high profile guests attending the event, as well as a wide range of businesses from across the region, which provided entrepreneurs an excellent opportunity to meet, develop existing business relationships, and share ideas.

Head of Upper Sixth, and newly-appointed Vice Principal Shahzad Hussain is keen to develop effective links with the business community in Birmingham, with a particular emphasis on workplace-awareness and sourcing early career opportunities for students. He commented: “Business in Birmingham is starting to thrive, but we all still have a responsibility to cultivate links between businesses and education to help ideas flourish and help the city go from strength to strength.

“We at Abbey College Birmingham offer a wide range of A-level subjects and particularly specialise in those subjects which lead to university courses and careers in the fields of Business, Medicine, Science and Engineering. We firmly believe in maintaining active links with universities and putting in place opportunities for students who are enthusiastic about becoming a part of the business community. In turn, this will enhance the professional and commercial future of Birmingham.”
