German trip for young musicians

Aldridge students to stage encore.

Talented young Walsall musicians are set to represent their school in a series of concerts as part of a German orchestra tour.

A group of 40 pupils from Aldridge School are heading to the Black Forest region for the six-day trip from 8th-14th July.

During the tour they will link up with the Freiburg Music School, perform a concert at the Ganter Brewery, join up with the Kepler Gymnasium school in Freudenstadt and play a concert in Zell Kanzleiplatz.

The bi-annual music tour is celebrating its 20th year visiting the same towns and staying in the same hotel with this year providing the added bonus of World Cup fever.

Richard Mason, music director at the Tynings Lane school, said: “We organise a concert tour to Germany every two years for our musicians in years 10 to 13. For many this trip will be a return visit and for the school it will mark two decades of visiting the region.

“Over the years we have built up excellent links with the hotel where we stay, the schools and towns we visit. It really is a highlight for our musicians to take part. This year it may have an extra special twist if, while we are there Germany get through to the World Cup final, which will of course be another kind of music to our host nation’s ears.”
