Lucy Spraggan headlines Lichfield Rocks festival

The second Lichfield Rocks festival, taking place on July 26th this year, will be headlined by 2012 X-Factor sensation Lucy Spraggan, supported by a host of top artists.

The event will be held at Lichfield Brewery the Bowling Green and will be an all-day event full of family fun entertainment, with a night of live music performed by established and local talent.

Lucy Spraggan, best known for her quirky, original performances on the ITV show, is the first contestant in the show’s history to score a Top 40 single and album before the live shows aired, with her independently released album Top Room at the Zoo. The extremely grounded singer/songwriter from Derbyshire is already making a name for herself on the national music scene with her very personal approach to lyricism.

Lucy will be joined on the day by local art rockers Stubblemelt, who will be rocking the main stage fresh off their performance at Nuneaton’s Big Boro Festival. The band will be performing songs from their critically acclaimed debut album Gypaetus Barbatus, which was released in May.

Also confirmed for the event is The Voice finalist, Mitchell Emms, who performed on the show last year. Mitchell Emms, who also goes by the stage name Mister Nothing, is another local artist who performed alongside Stubblemelt and Scouting for Girls at the Big Boro Festival. He is famous for performing over 500 live gigs before he reached the age of 15. Walsall pop punkers Two N Eights and Chris Thompson, ex Manfred Mann’s Earth Band guitarist, will also perform at the event.

Last year’s Lichfield Rocks Festival was headlined by Stubblemelt and Birmingham Indie poppers JAWS and raised over £2,500 for St Giles Hospice in Whittington. This year the festival will be sponsored by Lichfield Health Club and will raise money for Whittington Barracks Regiment, to support the construction of a hospital in the town for injured and wounded soldiers.

Organiser Kyle Perry, who derived the idea of Lichfield Rocks last year, is aiming to surpass 2013’s total fundraising amount. He said: “We were really impressed with how well attended the first Lichfield Rocks festival was last year and we are already planning to make this year’s event much bigger. We have a number of big name artists confirmed for the event for both the main stage and the acoustic stage. We hope lots of music fans will turn out, enjoy a great day of music and entertainment and show their support for a really worthwhile cause.”

Tickets for Lichfield Rocks Festival will cost £8 and are available from The Bowling Green on 01543 257344. Address: Friary Road, Lichfield, WS13 6QJ.
