Top pianist to give masterclass at Solihull School

Award-winning musician will share her knowledge with students.

Pupils, parents and friends of Solihull School are being invited to brush up on their instrumental skills in the company of a top pianist, chamber musician and organist.

Elizabeth Burgess will be holding a Piano Masterclass in the school’s David Turnbull Music School in Warwick Road on Monday, January 27 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

A regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 3, Elizabeth was part of the duo that won first prize in the prestigious Wigmore Hall International Song Competition in 2009.

Her diverse concert schedule ranges from the Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith Square to the Alderburgh, Buxton and Oxford Lieder Festivals.

Participants will be able to work with Elizabeth in an open forum and benefit from her experience of accompanying some of the finest singers and instrumentalists of her generation.

Oliver Walker, Head of Choral Music and Head of Keyboard at the independent school for boys and girls, said: “We are very excited about welcoming Elizabeth to Solihull School for what promises to be an entertaining and inspirational event.”

Solihull School will also be hosting a day of master classes and performances by the British Trombone Society on Sunday, February 9 from 10am to 7pm, concluding with an evening concert in the School’s Bushell Hall.
