Witnesses to incident sought.

An appeal has been made for witnesses following an incident this morning when a man died after falling from a bridge over the M6 in Birmingham .

Police received an emergency call at 10.30 am today after a motorist saw the man fall from a bridge near the Coleshill M42 junction.Emergency services responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

The M6 was closed in both directions between junctions 4 and 4a following the incident to allow enquiries to be made at the scene. The northbound carriageway reopened an hour later, with two lanes of the southbound carriageway open to traffic by 12noon.

Inspector Paul Bennett from West Midlands Collision Investigation Unit said: “We urge anyone who was in the area of the overhead bridge or may have seen the moments leading up to the incident to contact us to assist with our investigation.

“We know that the closure of any part of our motorway network causes significant disruption, however we hope that people understand the need to make necessary enquiries at the scene before the road can made available to traffic again.”
